چکیده

The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys Stål (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is an invasive pest in America, Europe and Asia causes serious economic loss to crops, nuisance problems during overwintering. Uninvaded southern hemisphere countries, such as New Zealand Australia, see increase H. border interceptions the northern populations’ overwintering period large aggregations of can settle diapause items for export, e.g. vehicles, containers, etc. Here, we explored aspects diapausing behaviour relative release perception defensive odour compounds. First, determine whether group size agitation affect odours, were confined glass tubes individuals or varying sizes mechanically agitated remained stationary presence absence odours was recorded. Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, also established if exposure individual components (tridecane, (E)-2-decenal, 4-oxo-(E)-2-hexenal, dodecane) induced Additionally, dispersal measured laboratory following their natural blend. We found that agitating bugs did not induce odours. human-detectable only groups halys, whereas non-agitated emit odour. Exposure 4-oxo-(E)-2-hexenal component resulted releasing Diapausing blend compounds increased horizontal distance moved velocity, while tridecane moved, velocity angular (E)-2-decenal moved. Our behavioural chemical data suggest released by act alarm pheromone, particularly when adults are aggregations.

Identification of volatiles released by diapausing brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae)

The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, is an agricultural and urban pest that has become widely established as an invasive species of major concern in the USA and across Europe. This species forms large aggregations when entering diapause, and it is often these aggregations that are found by officials conducting inspections of internationally shipped freight. Identifying the presenc...

Toxicity of insecticides to Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) using glass-vial bioassays.

A scintillation glass-vial bioassay was used to test technical grade insecticides against the non-native stink bug Halyomorpha halys (Stål). Halyomorpha halys (Stål) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is emerging as an important pest in the Mid-Atlantic States, especially in tree fruits and as a homeowner nuisance during the winter. Pyrethroid insecticides, especially bifenthrin, caused mortality agains...

Utilizing immunomarking techniques to track Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) movement and distribution within a peach orchard

In this study we focus on the invasive brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Stål) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), which has a strong dispersal capacity and has had a significant impact on several cropping systems, including peach (Prunus persica (L.)). Management of H. halys has relied on intensive insecticide use, and thus a better understanding of its dispersal behavior may assist in dev...

The Effects of Kernel Feeding by Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) on Commercial Hazelnuts.

Halyomorpha halys Stål, the brown marmorated stink bug (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is an invasive pest with established populations in Oregon. The generalist feeding habits of H. halys suggest it has the potential to be a pest of many specialty crops grown in Oregon, including hazelnuts, Corylus avellana L. The objectives of this study were to: 1) characterize the damage to developing hazelnut k...

Evaluation of Trap Designs and Deployment Strategies for Capturing Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae).

Halyomorpha halys (Stål) is an invasive pest that attacks numerous crops. For growers to make informed management decisions against H. halys, an effective monitoring tool must be in place. We evaluated various trap designs baited with the two-component aggregation pheromone of H. halys and synergist and deployed in commercial apple orchards. We compared our current experimental standard trap, a...
